What is coaching?

Nowadays the label “coaching” is used widely but not wisely. It is not always clear what it is, and what it is not. So, what is coaching? This is a fundamental question.

How can you tell if coaching is what we need, if you do not know what it is?

In fact there is a clear distinction between coaching and other supporting practices such as therapy, counselling, training, teaching, mentoring and consulting.

  • 2 In coaching, you set the goals. The coach will be in charge of the process to help you set a clear direction, define your plans and take actions.
  • 3 Coaching helps you find your own solutions. You are the expert of yourself, therefore you know what’s right for you.
  • 4 Coaching does not deal with past issues; it deals with the present and works for a better future.
  • 5 Coaching is about building self-confidence and creating a positive action-oriented attitude.
  • 6 Coaching is a partnership; you and your coach are equal partners in this relationship.
